Skin Health with Essential Oils
Holistic beauty with essential oils can help improve dry skin, often linked to menopause. It does this without disrupting your hormones. Over time, skin can feel softer and more balanced.
Essential oils also fit naturally into a holistic lifestyle. Many people use them to make simple household products.
Some people want to make their own products but feel intimidated by essential oils. Others assume they are too complicated to use. They aren’t.
Once you see how easy oils can be, you may wonder why you waited so long. There are a few key things to learn first. Knowing how to store, purchase, handle safely, and use each oil makes all the difference. From there, creativity takes over.
Storage
Essential oils and carrier oils must be stored in a cool, dark place, as well as the products you prepare with them.

Keeping your oils in one spot in the refrigerator helps them last longer. A beauty fridge works well, too. In many cases, this can double their shelf life.
Light and temperature changes affect oil quality. Over time, oils can break down faster. When that happens, they may no longer be safe to use. You’ll usually notice the smell first—and it won’t be pleasant.
Purchasing Oils
The quality of your oil is crucial. They must be 100% pure and aim for organic when possible. With the demand for essential oils, many companies are making them and claiming they are pure, but they aren’t.

A simple way to check an oil is the paper test. Place one drop on plain white printer paper. Let it sit for 24 hours.
If there’s no stain left behind, the oil is good. If you see a greasy mark or smear, the oil has been altered. Don’t use it on your skin. It can still be used for cleaning products.
Safety (Absolutely Important to Read, Seriously Do Not Skip This)
DO NOT DIFFUSE OR APPLY OILS TO OR AROUND ANIMALS OR CHILDREN. MANY ARE TOXIC AND CAN HARM THEM IF EXPOSED. THERE ARE MANY CAUTIONS ABOUT USING THEM WHILE PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING, SO CLEAR THE USE OF THEM WITH YOUR DOCTOR. THESE CAUTIONS APPLY TO ALL PRODUCTS PREPARED WITH ESSENTIAL OILS.
UNLIKE STOREBOUGHT PRODUCTS, YOUR HOME-PREPARED PRODUCTS DO NOT CONTAIN WARNING LABELS. THEREFORE, ENSURE THAT ALL PRODUCTS YOU PREPARE HAVE THE INGREDIENTS, AS WELL AS THE DATE YOU PREPARED IT, LABELED ON THE CONTAINER.
THE USE OF ESSENTIAL OILS SHOULD BE INCLUDED WHEN YOU PROVIDE INFORMATION TO YOUR PHYSICIAN REGARDING HERBAL SUPPLEMENTS THAT YOU CONSUME, DIFFUSE, OR APPLY.
